Maatullin School and Kindergarten

The project The Forest Glade is a warm and inviting place for learning, surrounded by lush and inspiring nature. With its central location on the intersection of a series of recreational and public spaces and parks, it provides a unique opportunity to create a cohesive park landscape and a multifunctional building that enriches the whole area. With great respect for the surrounding park area, buildings and its users, we propose to create an urban forest school which functions as a natural meeting point between Tapulikaupunki’s urban life and green surroundings. The school becomes a node in the area that with its wooden facade brings a human scale and warmth, opens up towards all directions and invites nature into the building.

The building is divided into several small blocks that are connected in the middle with a circular green courtyard - The Forest Glade. All common areas are located in this central space, creating a diverse, creative and inspiring learning environment for the learners and supporting social interaction and controllability.

With a tactile and warm wooden interior, views of the green environment, good acoustics and natural daylight, the learning and activity spaces in the school and the kindergarten help the children and students to feel at home, safe and comfortable meanwhile creating the best environment for learning, creativity and well-being.
